Yang Zuotang Writes the Peking University Founder Typefaces

I have now reached the age of “seventy, doing as my heart desires.” All my life, whenever I have spare time, I have loved engaging in dialogue with the ancients. Each Chinese character fascinates me like a finely crafted piece of architecture. When I saw that the Peking University Founder Typefaces encompassed all traditional and simplified Chinese characters, out of both love for our motherland’s script and a sense of social responsibility, I “followed my heart” and wrote each character by hand. A timeless joy naturally arose in my heart. I hope that all readers may share in this happiness—this is the very essence of my original intention.

我已到了“七十隨心所欲”的年齡，一直以來，庖丁冗余，就愛與古人對話。每個漢字都如同一座座精美的建築深深吸引我。儅我看到北大方正字庫涵蓋了所有的繁體簡體漢字時，出於對祖國文字的熱愛，出於對社會的責任心，我“隨心所欲”地逐字書寫了出來，一種經久不衰的快樂，油然從心中升起。期盼著所有讀者也快樂起來，此乃我之初心。——左棠自序
